Beach shelter -- after the storm by ellarien Beach shelter -- after the storm by ellarien
Mandelbulb3D -- tweak of my own parameters from 'Look what I found' fav.me/d7pvtl9.
This landscape is littered with interesting shapes -- it's worth having a look at full size. Background from my own photo.

(I'm not quite clear whether including a background photo sky really makes it a manipulation rather than a raw fractal. Any opinions on that?)

So gourgeous! Definetely looks like a beach!! :) This looks very real!

I don't consider adding a background manipulation. Oh and the title is perfect!

The purpose of manipulation is to enhance, though it's always nice to have insight into the methods used by the creator.  This one knits well and is a satisfying look.

Lovely & cool fractal!

I second blipbl0p's definition :)
And, cropping, color tweaks, super minor pixel touch-up, contrast +/-  & it's still raw.

There you have found some really interesting stones within that desert ;-)

I agree that a background photo does in many -or even most- cases not make up a manipulation.
Manip would here be something like putting a figure into the landscape, adding some stones from other fractals -or from photos-, or doing some distorts after finishing.

I love those branching/spiralling 'tree' formations so much. they're great.

myself, I figure if you can make the entire image in a single program, it's a raw fractal, and as soon as you pull it into another program to tweak it further, it becomes a manipulation.

If it's done with one application, I mean MB3D can do Reflections, transparencies, fog, Mapping, Volumetric Lighting add BG etc all in the same app.....That's NOT manipulation that's Production

Most welcomed , you know when you submit your art and if you click on fractal manipulations as your category ? Look where there are 2 samples and there will be a short description of what is considered a manipulation ;)

...and on the backgrounds... I never know either: often I find them only disturbing, sometimes they add.... they are tricky :)
